AcuWeb™Portfolio

In the next few minutes we'll get you acquainted with the features of Acuweb™Portfolio -- one of ten browser-based apps in our fifth generation suite of tools that make it easier than ever for you to effectively manage an online product catalog or portfolio of your work, without the need for any prior web-tech knowledge.

Acuweb™Portfolio allows you to set up a categorized portfolio of your products. Portfolio is not an online store, in that it does not have shopping cart or "check out and pay" functions; rather, Portfolio is intended for those enterprises who wish to showcase their products or work in a non-e-commerce environment.

First, let's look at some examples of how Acuweb™Portfolio output appears on a website. As you can see, the Portfolio listings are consistently formatted, and each listing has a "view details" link, which your site visitor can click for more information. Portfolio listings are also searchable by one or more criteria; the search parameters can be customized for your site by the Acuweb engineering team.

When a search is executed (in this case, a search by brand name for 'mc coy miller'), the search results are displayed in a similar manner, and are also clickable to detail views about each product.

The detail views feature an enlarged product image, full product detail, and are automatically formatted by Portfolio to display a series of icon-links at the top of the listings. Which links appear depend on whether you have loaded a web address for each item; if, for example, this product has no photo gallery associated with it, the photo gallery icon-link will not appear.

When the print info icon is clicked, however, Portfolio automatically generates a pre-formatted, printable fact sheet for that product. This downloadable pdf document is built "on demand," when a user clicks the "print info" icon-link…

Because the pdf is assembled using the current product information in the Portfolio database, it is always up-to-date -- eliminating the need for time-consuming layout and maintenance of product fact sheets, which can quickly become dated as product information changes.

With Acuweb™Portfolio, the moment you update product information on your website, the pdf fact sheets will incorporate your changes -- assuring that customers will always be downloading the latest, most current information.

Back on the product detail screen, when your site visitors click on the photo gallery icon-link, they are taken to a gallery of thumbnail images for that product . . .

These galleries can be easily assembled using the Acuweb gallery app, or you may choose to link to external galleries on sites such as flickr or photobucket.

If you're using Acuweb gallery as your photo-display solution…

…visitors can click on any thumbnail image to see a product image enlargement, and from there can use the navigation arrows to view as many product images as you've chosen to load.

Administer Listings

Now let's look at how you can administer your Acuweb™Portfolio listings.

In the Acuweb administration area, any time you select an Acuweb 'app' , the options for that app will appear in the blue sub-nav bar immediately below the main navigation. This method of navigating among your Acuweb apps is consistent across all of your site's tools. You can always click on the name of the app, in the main navigation bar, to return to the starting list-view.

First, you'll see a listing of all existing items in your Portfolio database. The list-view displays a number of attributes for each item, for quick reference. At the top of the list is the 'add new product' button, allowing you to add new products to your Portfolio database.

To the right are two function-buttons -- 'edit' and 'pdf'. The pdf button lets you quickly generate a pdf fact-sheet for that product, exactly as it would for visitors clicking the 'print info' icon-link on the public side of your site.

The 'edit' button takes you to a series of panels that allow you to manage the details of each portfolio listing.

In the edit view, the first panel contains essential product information. Not all fields are required; for example, the cost and size fields may only be appropriate for certain kinds of products, and may be left blank if not needed. Any fields left blank do not display on Portfolio's public output.

Acuweb™Portfolio allows you to enter both a brief and full description for each item; here, the brief description appears with the product image in Portfolio's public list-view; the full description appears in the product detail view.

As we mentioned earlier, the four web-links at the bottom of this panel can be used to display the series of icon-links on the product detail-view, each of which is clickable to the web addresses you supply here.

Again, if you leave one of these values blank, neither the relevant icon nor web-link will appear on the public detail-view for this product.

In the Links Panel you can add links to web sites outside your page, product image links outside your site or to an existing AcuWeb Gallery using the drop down menu.

Also from the links tab you can provide links to product videos or specs.

Portfolio, like other Acuweb apps, allows you to categorize your products and group them into categories. Portfolio, however, works with eight pre-defined categories; you'll tell the Acuweb engineering team what you wish those category labels to be at the time Portfolio is initially configured for use on your site.

If your portfolio will include real estate products, the 'real estate information' panel provides a method for entering location-specific information. The latitude and longitude values will allow Portfolio to generate an interactive google map, pinpointing the product's location.

Similarly, as appropriate, you can use the 'client/manufacturer information' panel to list product manufacturer information, or, if using Portfolio to display, for example, information about design projects, you can use these fields to enter information about the client for whom this work was done.

In the 'Image' panel, you can add an image to accompany your product listing; this is the image that appears adjacent to the product in Portfolio's public list-view. Remember that additional product images can be added by setting up an Acuweb gallery for this product, and linking it to the product detail view as we described a moment ago.

Back on the main navigation bar, clicking the blue "categories" tab allows you to view and edit each of the categories you wish to establish in order to organize your products….

Because cateories are one way your site visitors can search your products, it is important to give some thought to how many categories you'll want to establish.

Optionally, note that each category can include contact information, so that, for example, if your company's sales team is organized by product lines, the appropriate sales contact's information can be listed next to each product in that category.
